Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Healthy Dog Treats

My beagle lurking around the kitchen while I cooked!

Did you know pumpkin is not only delicious, it’s also extremely nutritious for dogs? All natural pureed pumpkin (with no added sugar or spices) is known to help keep a dogs digestive track regular. Additionally, adding a little pumpkin to your dogs food will help keep their coat shiny, as pumpkin contains a high amount of essential fatty acids and antioxidants.  My pit bull Prada had a ton of digestive issues when I first got her, a little pumpkin in her food helped clear them right up!

Below is a recipe I’ve made a few times for “the pack”:
  • 2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree
  • 4 tbsp all-natural peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp Omega-3 Fish Oil (optional)
  • Cinnamon (optional, masks the fish oil smell)
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl, mix on low or stir rapidly until the dough starts to come together and make little balls. You can also get in there and just use your hands to mix the dough, that’s what I did.
  3. Place the treats on a baking sheet lightly coated with cooking spray. You can also use a non-stick pan or add some wheat flower to the bottom of the pan so the dough does not stick.
  4. Place the treats close together. As there is no baking powder, they don’t expand, so maximize the space on the pan.
  5.  If you are using the optional cinnamon, sprinkle it along the tops of all the cookies. Use as much as you’d like, it smells delish!
  6. Bake 45 minutes or until hard. Be very careful to let them cook all the way, it’s better to over cook then under!
  7. Let cool completely. Makes 45+ 1″ treats.

Your doggies will love it! Mine lurked around in the kitchen the whole time I was cooking them. Enjoy :)
