Kudos to National Geographic for publishing this awesome infographic, called “Giving Pit Bulls a Second Chance”. This pit bull education and awareness  flyer contains a wealth of information about pit bulls, and addresses several of the misconceptions surrounding the breed.  Here are a few excerpts from the infographic:

Myth: Pitbulls have “lock jaw”
Truth: Pitbulls jaws exert 235 pounds per square inch. The average dog is 320 pounds. Lock jaw? I don’t think so.

Myth: Pitbulls are born aggressive, more aggressive and dangerous then other breeds.
Truth: 86.8% of American Pit Bull Terriers have passed their temperament tests performed by the ATTS (American Temperament Test Society). That’s higher than collies, golden retrievers and beagles!

Myth: Pitbulls were bred and born to fight
Truth: They were actually used as herding dogs, used to protect livestock. They were also used to protect the children and were once called “nanny dogs”.
